Vikings season 3 'Born Again' part 2 Spoiler Alert

http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/pictures/season-3-episode-6-born-again/vikings_s3e6_gallery_5
Hail Vikings,

After watching episode 6 again I  came trough so much new information that I am writing a part 2

The old men from the settlement who came to Ragnar by Floki lost a child and watched him die in the cold of ice and water. Ragnar knows the feeling after what happened when the Wanderer came around and did this to his own children.

We have 2 new-born babies. One in Wessex and one in Kattegat. Porunn gives birth to  a girl called Siggy  after the died Siggy who saved Ragnar children. In Wessex the child is born from Athelstan and Judith get a boy Alfred that will be Baptized. King Eckbert thinks the child will be special because he sees Athelstan as a holy men. There will be a Baptism for Alfred but there is also a ritual with water that Bjorn does for the Gods with Siggy.

After Bjorn names his child Siggy, Aslaug gets nightmares and see her children drown together with Siggy. This reverse to the old men again but also to her feeling of guilt. I do think she has seen the drowning and the saving of her children. I think she also has it because she wouldn´t have left the children alone in the first place. Ragnar tells Aslaug to never leaves his children unattended.

In the scene where Judith gets punished for what she did with Athelstan, King Eckbert decide to humiliate both Judith´s ear for humiliation of Aethelwolf. King Eckbert tells Aethelwolf that Athelstan is a men of god. Eckbert connects Athelstan with Jesus because Athelstan crucified and resurrection from Jesus that is what happened to Athelstan. Eckbert also talks about Judith being the virgin mother Mary was and then the role of Athelstan would be god, an angel or Joseph.

After this Athelstan wakes up after the blow of the light. The light is god. He is lying on the floor in the place Jesus has on the cross. When he got up he tells `I was dead but I am reborn`. From Christianity we go to the Gods of the Vikings. Floki gets a sign while he made a figure Odin and it tells him blood need spelled. Floki gets into a flow of outrage in this outrage he hurt Helga but she knows like Floki knows that he doesn´t want to hurt her. She knows what will happen and she will keep it still.

Floki goes from his own boatyard and goes to Kattegat but he musn´t been seen by anyone. Because of the flow the music takes you and the people of Kattegat he is unseen in Kattegat but when Rollo cross his path we will see the trickster god Loki in Floki again. There are three possibilities here in this scene. Floki turns himself into a dog as shape shifter, second could be it was a distraction set up by Floki his son the wolf changed in a dog Fenrir or it could be the disguise of Floki in the story of Freyr and Byggvir where Loki disguised himself into a dog. The dog distracts Rollo from Floki. Floki could pass him without getting noticed although I do think Rollo and Ragnar knew about Floki´s plan. But there I am not sure. Rollo´s reaction is kind of strange when the dog is left. It seems it vanished into nothing.

Vikings season 3 'Scarred' with spoilers

http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/pictures/season-3-episode-4-scarred/vikings_s3e4_1

This was the episode we where waiting for. A main character got killed in this episode. The speculations where high and never could we imagine what was going to happen. We all got it wrong but there is still 6 episodes to come so who knows what will happen (dead, treason, torture) next it is not yet the end of this season. Next week we are half way trough the season with a funeral coming up. With that said I will begin to say what a twist and turning is coming up this episode.

We start off in Kattegat with Aslaug who is very tired because Ivar is crying a lot because he is in pain. Aslaug gives up and want to go Siggy tried to stop here but Aslaug leave here children once again. She goes to the Wanderer. While she is away Siggy want to regain power or she want to have the memory back when she was wife of an earl.

The Wanderer tells us another myth who could be identified with Odin the Allfather. The myth he was telling is about Olaf his son High duke at that moment but will be king when he meets Odin in the myths. http://www.hwlongfellow.org/poems_poem.php?pid=2027

A strange thing happens between Aethelwolf, Rollo and Floki. Rollo and Aethelwolf speak of friendship. Rollo needs to tell Floki why this is so important and here we see a Rollo who start his political career. We saw a little last episode of his politics but now we see more politics of him.

If we take Floki in this conversation he gives the blame to the baptism of Rollo who also makes him a christian. Floki is a men of gods.  He talks to them and they are angry. After a while Rollo talks about this conversation with Ragnar. Ragnar wants to challenge the gods. Rollo made up his mind and go to search for Floki to tell him that he will never let it come to that, another political decision he makes.

Lets talk about King Eckbert and his plan to rule Wessex, Mercia and I think he will rule Northumbria as well in time. He wasn´t prepared that Lagertha would go back and didn´t fall for his plan to let her stay. Athelstan is also one of the persons who will go back with Ragnar. King Eckbert told him that this is the wrong decision. Athelstan thinks he is wise to leave because he want to give Princess Judith the space to stay with Eathelwolf. I think in the end this is a wrong decision. To be continued.

The King Eckbert and Ragnar scene is a fun to watch I like the way they get a long with each other. They both love politics. they both love the same women, they know each other too well.
When Siggy goes after the two sons of Ragnar on the ice to save them once again (King Horik) it becomes her dead. I think she didn't know what the Wanderer was capable off. She distrusted him and went to the seer last episode and he couldn't do a thing for her.

In another piece of this episode we see that the Wanderer is there for people who suffer. He sees Aslaug, Ivar and Siggy suffer. So the Wanderer (Odin) told Helga and Aslaug that Siggy is in Valhalla. Most blogs I read where talking about that Siggy needed to go to Hellheim. I will stay with my decision that the Wanderer Odin in person took the decision to let her into Valhalla. Odin is the one who decide where the died would go.

And then the surprises of this episode Princess Kwindreth become a queen herself by poisoning her own brother. Also we have a return surprise from two characters. Erlundor son of King Horik is back with his wife Torvi the ex-wife of Jarl Borg who is dead due to the Blood Eagle and they had a child of Jarl Borg with them. Born after the dead of Jarl Borg. This is the backup for his own crowned Earl Kalf to get rid off the Lothbroks.

Vikings season 3 'Warrior's Fate' with spoilers

http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/pictures/season-3-episode-3-warriors-fate/vikings_s3e3_gallery_6

This episode of Vikings gave a lot of information about a lot of characters in the series. I loved this episode even more as the last one although the dead is very present this episode. In this episode we see lots of change coming up.

The first thing that pops into my mind is The wanderer Harbard what a performance if we look there is a no doubt about him that he is Odin. I will tell you why. If you look at wanderer there are four possible options. If you look at Harbard you will find out that it comes from Hackelberend. It is the name of Odin in disguise as wind-god but it could be another story a lover of Signy Harbard (Odin in disguise) who killed her brothers except for Sigmund.

So the story about the giants and Thor he told the girls I wasn’t convinced yet I still had the idea that he would be Loki that is also a part that he killed his brother Otter also a myth by Sigurd or Thor because he could change to anything he liked and he was telling he was there and he asked who he where and the girls said Thor.

Aslaug needs to know him because Sigmund is the father of Sigurd and Sigurd is the father of Aslaug.

About faith and believe there is  definitely a change in the ways the people believe in. Ragnar already believes in two gods. According to Floki Ragnar changed from gods already because it is Athelstan’s fault that Ragnar believes more in the Christian god. Floki thinks that it will make the gods upset.

What we also see is that the nobles want to have the shipbuilding secrets because they gave away the secrets of farming. But King Eckbert has a larger interest he wants Mercia and for that he needs Ragnar and the pagans.

Athelstan tries to convince King Eckbert, Princess Judith and the nobles to see what a ritual is the Viking way they agree but after the ritual the nobles want the pagans gone. The only mistake in the bathhouse our King Eckbert makes is that he thinks the Greek goddess is the same as the pagan one.

We see a lot of battles, one battle is extra ordinary because this battle twist a lot of characters around. Ragnar, Floki, Bjorn and Rollo have to face the dead of one also loved character. But after last weeks end we already could expect who was going to die. What can I say about our brave men Thorsten. When he sees Rollo something happen between those two. Only at that moment he choose to take Rollo to make decisions that Thorsten already had in mind. He want to die in an epic battle. When he climbed that mountain he already knew he would be the first on top of the hill. Ragnar knows why he chose to go alone on that mountaintop. He want to die as a champion and he did. I sat on the edge of my couch and watched it with greatness. What a champion and what a great brave warrior Thorsten was the time.

Also an alliance would be broken. In this epic battle we found out that Aethelwolf son of King Eckbert will betray the brother of Princess Kwindreth. I thought they made a deal in last episode and Aethelwolf wouldn’t fight along these pagans.

Floki can’t except that he fight in a conflict that isn’t his it is Ragnar’s fault Thorsten is dead. But what happens next is more cruel than I expected from Ragnar. His own son needs him and what he does is tell him what he thinks about it. The part Rollo is playing in this situation is crucial. He gives Bjorn the real advice he needed.

Vikings season 3 'The Wanderer' with spoilers

http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/pictures/season-3-episode-2-the-wanderer/vikings_s3_e2_gallery_6
The second episode of Vikings is a bit disturbing when it comes to different areas of myth. The Wanderer is an episode of mysterious things. What I like about this episode is that we see more difference in the Viking and christian world. Funny about the episode is that it is about language barriers and barriers between gods. If we look at what happens between characters it will be easier to explain.

Ragnar wanted to know from princess Kwindreth why she hated her uncle so much. something happened at the age of 6. She doesn't believe that her uncle is finally dead. After this they will try to attack the brother of princess Kwindreth but he and his army are already scared before they are even ashore. They will wait for reinforcement of the army. Aethelwolf will go and find out where they are hiding and I don't know but he can betrayal Ragnar and Kwindreth.

Also we see the first boundaries in the language difference. Rollo and Thorsten with princess Kwindreth. Lagertha, King Eckbert and our interpreter Athelstan. Both old English and old Nordic language.

Thorsten his arm is hurt by an arrow. He is in a lot of pain. What Rollo is doing in that next scene is trying to tell Thorsten there is a way to get rid of his pain. The leg of the English soldier isn't hurting but despite the leg position is very wrong in a way when Rollo see this he want to find out if it is possible to amputate this leg, because the men don't understand what is happening Rollo decide to kill the men. He shows Thorsten what he could do. it will make the choice easier for Thorsten.

Also there is a complete trust issue going on. why does Ragnar tells Aethelwolf to go and find the army of the brother of princess Kwindreth? does he again knows the betrayal or was it planned again. Also the friendship between Lagertha and King Eckbert is going on in strange mysterious ways. First the land then the necklace where is he up to? Then we have Kalf who claims the title earl he acts like Napoleon. What is his mission in this story I still havent figure that out yet. If the dream of him will come true he will be dinner for Ragnar. what Kalfs seeks is fame.

Athelstan still love both gods. He tells king Eckbert and princess Judith about it that the difference between both gods make him disbelieve in everything he thought he knew.

Then we have The Wanderer at the end of the episode he is kind of mysterious and in a way before we see the face I was thinking it was Floki. Wrong but in a way I could be right also. If Floki was Loki he could change in almost everyone and with that said I wanted to go further with my believe it is the start of the myth Baldr's/Gangerli (Beowulf)/Kvasir/Alvíssmál story or the poem in the poetic/prose Edda. The Wanderer could mean a lot we know different stories in the Nordic mythology. If we think about the Wanderer it could be Odin himself (Alvíssmál, Gangerli) , it could be Loki (Baldr). It could mean that times are changing or an empire that falls. Even though we don't know much about the Wanderer we do know that he maybe attack the seer, he first only appears in the dreams of Helga, Siggy and Auslaug. Auslaug should know what will happen but she doesn't. It is tricky in lot of ways. When he truly arrives he shows up by Helga who seems afraid for him. When he arrives Athelstan his hands bleed also.

Extended version Vikings Trailer season 3

All I have to say is that I love this trailer so much.
I had to see it several times to see what is going on.
I am way too excited, I want to see this season 3 so bad and I need to wait longer than you guys. I cannot wait for this.
How about the music I love the music of this trailer it tells us that this is a different time a darker one then before.
What we see is the battle between father and Son. The Son who want to do something else than where his father wish for. The battle between feelings and wisdom. strategy, power play and betrayal. A seer who see the future. Lagertha who is asking about her dead.
What we see in this piece of the trailer is very important. It tells us a lot of what will be happening. A couple of phrases I would like to take out of this meeting between the seer and Lagertha.
About the mythology use in this trailer. There is more mythology coming your way. If we look closer to the phrases said in the trailer we found out that there going to mix greek mythology with Nordic mythology. I will get a few phrases out. The marble city is that Rome, the Taj Mahal or Greece we are talking about? If we take Greece it is Athens or about the Greek goddess Athena. If we talk about Rome it where the buildings of that time.
  • The first phrase is I see a harvest with Blood this could go with the story of Ivar the boneless and tells us about The Vengeance for more information see http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-vengeance-of-ivarr-the-boneless-4002654/?no-ist
  • The second one is city of marble This could be either Rome or Athens but also the Taj Mahal associated with this city of marble. If it is Athens it will be a mixture of Nordic and Greece Mythology. It is about Athena.
  • The third is about burning brawling ocean and that is a funeral of that time. We know already that someone is going to die.
We see Floki embodied more and more as Loki. How do you know you might wonder.
  • Eckbert in the trailer tells us about truly April (Loki 's favourite day is april fools day)
  • If we see Ragnar hurt by the spear thrown by someone unknown for this moment (If Floki made this spear it has to do with Baldr and Loki mythology) Is this why Floki is holding a crown (is Floki seeking for power?)
  • We attack Paris, Tricks are worse (Trickster Loki)
  • Floki and the trees (blood brothers Odin/Loki or both made from Yggdrasil) Or is he trying to trap or save someone with the trees
  • Floki tells Ragnar how many must die for the Christian he is not amused with Athelstan
Is Loki bound in human from Floki?
Will they give answers to the questions
  • Who is going to leave Ragnar?
  • Who is going to Walhalla or heaven is someone going to die and at the end will this be Ragnar or Lagertha who is going to ask it to The seer? Or someone else.
  • Why is Ragnar that angry with Helga?
This trailer also tell there are more confusing things. If you saw both trailers the one from comic con and the one we see now there is a lot of difference. Some of it is the same but every new character is already introduced except for one the daughter of the France King.

Expectation I have on Vikings season 3

http://www.history.com/shows/vikings
There came a lot of things in my mind when I saw the trailer for season 3. After seeing it for several times I can only expect the unexpected because this trailer shows a lot but don’t explain what is going on. But for what I could find in the trailer I will explain in this post.

In the trailer we see big battles. Much bigger than last years battles.

We see a body of Bjorn or Floki into the water lying still. It could be a trick to explore how near your enemy is in the water. It could be a way to trick your enemy into a battle. A battle strategy or a death I can’t figure it out yet.

Then we get the stones and bones I have explained it before this is what I wrote about it in an earlier stage but will repeat it in this one although nothing is sure I think about this scenario:

If you take Floki who is a trickster and named after the trickster god Loki. There is a story in Loki’s history with a couple of things in it who reference to what the seer says.

When Loki was in his darker sinister form he insulted the gods and fled. He made a house with three or four doors so when the gods went out looking for him he could escape through the doors. (three sides) Loki’s children Vali turned into a wolf and Narfi is killed by Vali this was necessary for bones to bound Loki on to a rock (stones and bones). This would mean that Floki would be the one who is going to die or at least bound.(1)

If we look to this differently the stones and bones tell us dead, waken up from dead or they tell us that the stones will decide what will go on. The bones will tell us the huge victories.

Then he goes on about one river the one who is from what we know as the north sea up to the Seine. Two shores this could be England and France if you have read the articles about what he said. It could be Iceland because we see Bjorn on a rocky scenery with snow and dressed in very warm clothes with a very cold face. At the end of the trailer we see both Ragnar and Bjorn on that same scenery.

Three sides I think they mean that everyone has three sides the side we like to choose, the side we didn’t want to choose and the one chosen for us. It could be de dark side in you, but also it could be the choice of religion. Three sides could mean power, justice and law. Or England, France and Iceland.

About splitting I think Ragnar will divorce Auslaug but it could be one of her children who will die in this series. It explains a lot of the alone with her in the trailer. Everyone is going its own way.

By joining I see a romance between Lagertha and King Eckbert. I think this will be a trick to get Eckbert on his knees when Ragnar want him too. In my opinion Lagertha will trick him into his own dead.

Rollo gets a journey of his own. Because we see Rollo shouting to the others in the boat. I think more of them will go alone on journeys each for itself.
The struggling will be for each person but the more for Athelstan I think divided between two or three gods Pagan, Christian and Catholic.

Vikings potrait 1 Athelstan / George Blagden

Athelstan

http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/cast

Athelstan is a monk who turned from Christianity into the mythology world of the Vikings. He became a slave of Ragnar in the first season. In the second season he gets involved into a change from the Viking way into the Christianity again when he becomes the advisor of King Eckbert. We are not sure what is going to happen with him as character.

According to the history of the real Athelstan he is the one who fight every Viking out of England and then become King after all the Vikings are gone and there is a land to rule. He became the first king of England.

George Blagden

Which Vikings Character will be dead halfway in the series just an beforehand conclusion based on what you see?

During the panel of Comic-Con it was announced that we will lose a beloved character in the serie Vikings. There were two of the main characters not at the panel this year.
Floki played by Gustaf Skarsgård and Athelstan played by George Blagden. If you watch the trailer you don’t find a direct answer.

If you look further there might be an answer to that into the trailer. In the trailer is less Athelstan and less Floki but Floki is there at the end. A sign that Athelstan will die?

On the other hand the seer tells us about “stones and bones, a river two shores, three sides” etc.

(three sides) Loki’s children Vali turned into a wolf and Narfi was killed by Vali this was necessary for bones to bound Loki onto a rock (stones and bones). This would mean that Floki would be the one who is going to die or at least bound.(1)

Who dies we will know when we see the season but I will tell you in either way I wouldn’t like the idea of killing Floki nor Athelstan but as Clive said in the panel “everybody will die in the series some day because it is part of the history”. We know that but we love the characters so much that we are forced to believe that they couldn’t die at all.

There is a king who is going to die does that count as a beloved character maybe Eckbert? Or are we trapped in the idea of those getting killed and will it be Ragnar? The trailer also show us that Lagertha and Eckbert are going to bond? Would that means jelousy or will she marries Ragnar again?

What we do know for sure is that Rollo played by Clive Standen will be there in a fourth season if they keep track of the history of Rollo. “The raiding on Paris will continue if season 4 will be a go”says Michael Hirst.

My idea for a story to get an important English/Norse myth into the TV series Vikings

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emil_Doepler
When I was doing research on Excalibur I found a fantastic Norse myth about Odin and a sword in the heart of a mighty oak.

I started thinking about the series of Vikings who are full of Odin mythology. What if the writers of Vikings the series actually use that myth how would it look like?

Would Athelstan get challenged to get that sword out the heart of the oak? Or should we give Rollo that shot after he invaded France together with Ragnar.

Fact is we know there was a King called Athelstan. Rollo the Walker or Rollo the Viking became the duke of Normandy.

In one of the articles I read note that I am not sure if it is true. That Arthur wasn’t English at all. (1) But used to live in France. So if the series would go that far we could have our own tale of the Excalibur.

We also know that King Athelstan drove the Vikings out of England. He conquered the last Vikings in York. The Vikings settled in Scotland and with the scots they battled with King Athelstan after a while the battle of Hastings was a fact.

Rollo or Athelstan could be living the Arthurian tales.
We could make this legend work in the series. It is not yet told in one of the Vikings episodes.
